Giveaway QA Review THE SECRET OF ELLA AND MICHA by JESSICA SORENSEN @ForeverRomance

Book Description

March 26, 2013
If you loved Beautiful Disaster then you're ready to discover . . .

THE SECRET OF ELLA AND MICHA

A rule-breaker with a fiery attitude, Ella always wore her heart on her sleeve. Then she left everything behind to go to college, where she transformed into someone who follows the rules, keeps everything together, and hides all her problems. Now it's summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home. But once there, Ella fears that everything she's worked so hard to bury might resurface-especially with Micha living right next door.

Smart, sexy, and confident, Micha can get under Ella's skin like no one else. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. If he tries to tempt the old Ella to return, he will be impossible to resist. But what Ella doesn't realize is that when she left, she took a piece of Micha's heart with her. Now he's determined to win back the girl he lost, no matter what it takes.

MY THOUGHTS
ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT

Ella has run off to Las Vegas to attend school and when she can't stay in the dorms over summer break, she is forced to return home.  Her roommate, Lila,  drives her home and there she realizes that Ella has not been honest with her.  The studious and preppy Ella is really addicted to adrenaline and has a wild strike.  Lila drags her to a party down the street before she heads home to California and witnesses the immense attraction between Micha and Ella, the boy she left behind.  As Ella becomes more and more immersed in her old life, Lila see her true self and realizes that she has never been happy.

Micha has his own issues, a father who left him at age six, and has a hard but stable life in their neighborhood that is on the bad part of town.  He stopped playing music the moment Ella disappeared and has been searching for her ever since.  When she finally reappears, he tries to find the old Ella buried underneath the new front of perfect she has put up.  As the two explore their relationship, fact of their past keep coming up. The hardest thing is that Ella's mother has committed suicide after a lengthy mental illness and her brother blames her while her father becomes a raging alcoholic.

This story broke my heart and I found myself in tears over Ella's life.  The fact that she tries to pull herself together and move on to college shows just how much courage she has.  Even though Ella runs away, it is the only way she can survive.  Lila's, her roommate, is a wonderful friend to her even though she has some secrets that aren't revealed in this story. Ethan, Micha's  best friend, develops a romance with her and I can't wait to see what will happen there.  When Micha and Ella finally do realize they are in love, I was so thankful that they realized it before it was too late.  I really can't wait to get my hands on the next installment and fans of Katie McGarry and Jennifer Echols are going to adore this series.  Parents:  this is a New Adult book, so it is best suited for mature teens since there are sexual situations, language and alcohol / drugs mentioned.

Giveaway & Interview MOONSET by SCOTT TRACEY @scott_tracey @fluxbooks

Book Description

April 8, 2013 The Legacy of Moonset (Book 1)

Moonset, a coven of such promise . . . Until they turned to the darkness.

After the terrorist witch coven known as Moonset was de-stroyed fifteen years ago—during a secret war against the witch Congress—five children were left behind, saddled with a legacy of darkness. Sixteen-year-old Justin Daggett, son of a powerful Moonset warlock, has been raised alongside the other orphans by the witch Congress, who fear the children will one day continue the destruction their parents started.

A deadly assault by a wraith, claiming to work for Moonset’s most dangerous disciple, Cullen Bridger, forces the five teens to be evacuated to Carrow Mill. But when dark magic wreaks havoc in their new hometown, Justin and his siblings are immediately suspected. Justin sets out to discover if someone is trying to frame the Moonset orphans . . . or if Bridger has finally come out of hiding to reclaim the legacy of Moonset. He learns there are secrets in Carrow Mill connected to Moonset’s origins, and keeping the orphans safe isn’t the only reason the Congress relocated them . . .

About the Author
Scott Tracey is a YA author who lived on a Greyhound for a month, wrote his illustrated autobiography at the age of six, and barely survived Catholic school (and definitely not for the reasons you might think).
He is the author of WITCH EYES, chosen as one of Amazon’s Best LGBT Books of 2011, as well as an ALA Popular Paperback in the Forbidden Romance category.  The final book in the WITCH EYES trilogy, PHANTOM EYES, will be released in the fall of 2013.
He is also the author of MOONSET, a new series which will be released April 8, 2013, as well as a contributor to the SHADOWHUNTERS & DOWNWORLDERS anthology, edited by Cassandra Clare.
His career highlights include: accidentally tripping a panic alarm which led to nearly being shot by the police; attacked in a drive-thru window by a woman wielding a baked potato, and once moving cross country for a job only to quit on the second day.
His gifts can be used for good or evil, but rather than picking a side, he strives for BOTH (in alternating capacity) for his own amusement.
LINKS:

1.      What is the first book you remember reading by yourself as a child?

I went to Catholic school, and there were these primer books that had very simplistic versions of certain Bible stories in them.  So I'm pretty sure it would have been a book about Noah or Saul or someone like that.  I remember really enjoying the story of Saul and how he was approached by God and changed, and so he changed his name to reflect that.  I don't know why that story grabbed me so much at the time, but it was between him and Moses.  Because let's be honest: Moses could kick some tail.

2.      What are you reading right now?

It's a three way tie right now.  A TOUCH MENACING by the awesome Leah Clifford.  17 & GONE by Nova Ren Suma and CLOCKWORK PRINCESS by Cassie Clare.  I just need more hours in the day so I can finish all three of them!

3.      How does your garden grow?

With the help of the enemies I've buried beneath it? ;)

4.      What is the last thing you Googled?

I've actually been researching the second MOONSET book, so in the last 12 hours, I've searched "sociopathy in teenagers" "coma patients" "musical terminology" and "the Wizard of Oz."  Or variations of each of those four things.

5.      What makes you cringe?

Oh this is easy. Second hand embarrassment.  You know how on shows like American Idol, they have audition weeks, and they go from the really, really good to the really bad auditions?  The really bad auditions are the reason why I can't watch ANY reality show like that, because I can't sit through the embarrassment.  I can't even watch on mute, because I KNOW it's going to be horrible.

#BookBlast BLUE HEARTS OF MARS by NICOLE GROTEPAS win $50 @grotepas

Blue Hearts of Mars by Nicole Grotepas

Retta Heikkinen knows the unspoken rule of society: love between androids and humans is forbidden. A simple enough edict until Hemingway Koskinen spends an evening charming her with his intense gaze, bewitching smile, and sparkling conversation that hints at so much more than the usual obsessions of high school boys. Rules were meant to be cast aside, especially when love beckons.

If only it were as simple as being in love.

Trouble is brewing, not just for Hemingway--for all androids. Secrets have been kept, lies propagated, and Retta soon discovers that a frightening future awaits thousands of androids if she doesn’t do something to stop it. Worse yet, she will lose the one love she’s ever endangered herself for: Hemingway.

Praise

"Nothing like I've read before. A true original story! Everything is so well described. Now if they could make a follow up book and movie, that would be great!" ~Mrs. Z (Amazon)

"I was addicted to this book from the beginning. Life on Mars was very real and not at all a sci fi world I didn't understand . . . I found myself rooting for Retta and Hemingway from the very beginning. Easy reading, couldn't put it down and had it read in a weekend. Waiting for a sequel!" ~TNielsen (Amazon)

"The ending of this book is exceptional. While it was different from what I imagined, the way the author brought in a shocking revelation was amazing. I probably reread the last chapter 3 times letting it sink in and the meaning behind it. It was truly beautiful . . . I would love to see more of Retta and Hemingway!" ~Kat Meyer, (Goodreads)

"I love how the author populated Mars . . . so descriptive and comprehensive . . . I could clearly picture everything as if I was seeing the movie &/or was along for the ride. . . . Retta, the main character, is strong, opinionated, and a great champion for her cause." ~Megan (Amazon)

"I had been in the worst reading slump ever and came across this on Goodreads and thought I'd give it a try. Well, I was pleasantly surprised on how funny and exciting and mysterious it was . . . Mei, Retta's bff, had me laughing out loud quite a bit as well as Retta herself. I'd definitely hang out with those two." ~Deanneluvbooks (Goodreads)

The McClellands are enjoying a lazy summer vacation at the beach when they are lured from our world into Ixeos, an alternate Earth. Finding themselves lost in a maze of tunnels under Paris and surrounded by strangers, they discover that they have been brought to Ixeos for one purpose:  to take the planet back from humanoid aliens who have claimed it. With the aid of the tunnels and a mysterious man named Landon, the teens travel the world seeking the key that will allow them to free Darian, the long-imprisoned rebel leader. But the aliens aren't the only problem on Ixeos -- the McClellands have to deal with brutal gangs, desperate junkies, and a world without power, where all the technology is owned by the aliens, and where most of the population has been killed or enslaved. Trailer Premiere GIVEAWAY! THE FLAME IN THE MIST by KIT GRINDSTAFF @kitgrindstaff #ModPodgeBlogTours WIN $30

There's evil-a coming from up on the hill
If the Mist doesn't get you, the Agromonds will.
   —From an old Anglavian rhyme

EXCERPT:

Thunder roared, and lightning speared down. In its brief flashes, Jemma could see more shadows gathering. They looked like pale Mordsprites, small, bedraggled, skeletal. She lengthened her stride, but the ground was slick and she slipped, slamming face down in black mud. Hauling herself to her feet yet again, she came face to face with one of the shadows.

It was not a Mordsprite at all, but the gray silhouette of a child, a sunken-cheeked, hollow-eyed boy of no more than five, his ragged arms reaching out to her through the Mist.

Jemma stood petrified, her heart pounding as he swayed closer, oblivious to the chaos raining down around him. Others closed in behind him, a straggling band of waifs, all moving in the same direction.

Toward her.

PRAISE:

"Fast, creepy fun. A bit of The Addams Family, a bit of dark fantasy, and a boatload of monsters and magic make this read a ghoulish delight." - Stefan Bachmann, author of The Peculiar

About The Flame in the Mist:

The sun never shines in the land of Anglavia. Its people live within a sinister mist created by their rulers, the cruel Agromond family. The Agromonds' control is absolute; no one dares defy them. But things are about to change, for the youngest of them is not like the others...

Fiery-headed Jemma has always felt like the family misfit, and is increasingly disturbed by the dark goings-on at Agromond Castle. The night before her thirteenth birthday, Jemma discovers the terrifying reason why: She is not who she thinks she is, and the Agromonds have a dreadful ritual planned for her birthday—a ritual that could kill her.

But saving her skin is just the first of Jemma's ordeals. Ghosts and outcasts, a pair of crystals, a mysterious book, an ancient Prophecy—all these gradually reveal the truth about her past, and a destiny far greater and more dangerous than any she could imagine.

With her trusted friend, Digby, and her two telepathic golden rats, Noodle and Pie, Jemma faces enemies both human and supernatural. But in the end, she and her untapped powers might be the only hope for a kingdom in peril.
